A local Pacific Grove guitar teacher turns professional artist
I started my musical life as a trumpet player, drawn early to the community that naturally forms around music: teachers, recitals, families, and the shared excitement of performance. When guitar entered the picture, everything changed. It became the instrument I obsessed over, the one I practiced at every spare moment, and eventually, the path that led to teaching, performing, and building guitars for a living.
As I mentioned in a recent profile in the Monterey County Weekly, it was not until recently that I began to think of myself as an artist. For years I saw myself simply as a guitarist, a teacher, and a builder, but eventually I realized those roles added up to something larger. My students, ages 6 to 94, learn from me while offering fresh perspectives of their own, and over the years I have seen that lessons alone are not enough. Real growth happens when students feel connected, supported, and part of a musical community.
That is why I invite students and local music lovers to:
•Join Guitar Ensemble Monterey
•Attend open mics hosted by the Carmel Guitar Society
•Visit First Fridays at the Pacific Grove Art Center
•Hear world class guitarists perform when they visit the Monterey Peninsula
These opportunities help players grow, stay inspired, and feel connected.
I am incredibly grateful to be working in the largest studio I have ever had, right here in my own town at the Pacific Grove Art Center. Whether you are interested in commissioning a custom guitar, taking lessons, or attending a live classical guitar performance, my doors are open. My business and passion are fueled by this community, and I hope you will visit soon, bring a friend, and help continue building something meaningful and musical in Pacific Grove and the greater Monterey Peninsula.

Until then, keep practicing.
