Guitar Ensemble Monterey is a large, community-based classical guitar ensemble dedicated to high-level music-making, collaboration, and artistic growth. Directed by Anthony DeMers, GEM brings together guitarists from across the Monterey Peninsula—from dedicated adult learners to advanced students—to rehearse, perform, and develop as musicians in a supportive and energized environment.

The ensemble focuses on thoughtful interpretation, ensemble cohesion, and a strong rhythmic foundation. Members work on a wide range of repertoire, from Renaissance and Baroque works to contemporary compositions and new pieces by local composers. Each season includes public performances, opportunities for chamber music, and a clear pathway for members who wish to deepen their musicianship or move into more advanced groups such as quartets or specialty projects.
