Board Position: Carmel Guitar Society

Volunteering as nonprofit Board President is an opportunity to build more community

Volunteering as nonprofit Board President is an opportunity to build community

Presenting live concerts as Board President of the Carmel Guitar Society is one of the ways I most enjoy bringing the community together to celebrate classical guitar. My role shifts from project manager, to artist liaison, to concert producer and event host. Every event is a chance to connect people who love music with the artists who create it.

Our seasonal open mic events are a perfect introduction to what we do. They give the public a chance to meet me as a teacher, performer, and presenter, while also offering a welcoming place for guitarists of all levels to share their music. Members of Guitar Ensemble Monterey often perform together, and many of my students use these evenings to practice playing before an audience. You do not need to be a guitarist or performer to attend. Everyone is welcome. We serve refreshments, accept donations, and encourage people to simply come, listen, and enjoy. It is a wonderful opportunity to meet fellow students, build friendships, and be part of a supportive musical community outside the classroom.

The annual concert series and the classical guitar retreat are also incredible opportunities for guitar lovers to engage with the growing classical guitar scene on the Central Coast. You can be involved far beyond attending. Volunteers, presenters, and community partners play an essential role in helping these events thrive. We are in a period of exciting growth, expanding awareness of our programs, and creating events that people look forward to year after year.

It brings me great joy to spend time with students, volunteers, board members, audience members, and artists while enjoying classical guitar together. That is what this work is about. If you have an interest in contributing, volunteering, attending, or performing, I would love to hear from you. Carmel Guitar Society is a dedicated organization that I am proud to serve. Check us out and join us at our next event.
